Full LBHF text on Works on Brook Green Kick About Area
Works will commence to re-seed the kick about area of Brook Green on Monday 18th October 2010.
The council and our grounds maintenance contractor, Quadron Services Ltd, instructed the Sports Turf Research Institute to carry out a survey of the area to better understand why last years refurbishments were not successful and also to make recommendations on how best to improve the area for sports use in the future. The following works have been identified as a result of this survey:
- Remove excess sand using machinery except within tree protection zones where removal must be carried out by hand
- Cultivation of entire area
- Levelling of area using existing soils
- Relocation of eastern and western gates to prevent desire line through the middle of the area
- Creation of a new hoggin path to link the relocated gates
- Seeding of the entire area with predominantly rye-grass that is strong enough to take the wear of regular sports use
- Further re-seeding of entire area in the spring
The site will remain locked until Easter 2011 when the grass should have fully established. We would appreciate your co-operation in not using the during this period to allow the successful germination and establishment of the new grass.
The Parks Constabulary regularly patrol this area and any persons found within this area will be removed.
A programme of regular leaf clearance will be co-ordinated between both Serco (the council's street cleansing contractor) and Quadron (the council's grounds maintenance contractor) to ensure that the autumn leaf fall does not have a detrimental impact on the establishment of the new grass.
If you have any questions regarding the works please contact LBHF's Parks & Recreation team on 020 8753 3226 or email parks@lbhf.gov.uk
Thanks - Neil.
